Richard N. Countiss, Of Counsel, Williams Kherkher

Richard is responsible for all appeals of the law firm’s cases and handles special legal problems in the trial court cases.

Richard serves as an adjunct professor of law at the University of Houston Law School.

Education

  • Graduated from McMurry University in 1958
  • Graduated from Southern Methodist University Law School with honors in 1961
    • Editor in chief of the Southwestern Law Journal
    • Law School Representative to the SMU Student Council
    • Barrister’s Award as the Outstanding First Year Student

Past experience

  • One year of active duty with the U.S. Army
  • Worked for the U.S. Justice Department in Washington, D.C., where he was responsible for government appeals in the U.S. Courts of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court.
  • Appointed the District Judge of the 84th Judicial District in 1974
  • Appointed to the Seventh Court of Appeals in Amarillo in 1979, where he wrote over 1,000 appellate opinions between 1979 and 1988
  • Returned to private practice in Dallas in 1988, then in Houston in 1990

Richard is a native Texan, born in Midland in 1936.
