After a fatal accident occurred last year at Houston’s Livestock Show and Rodeo, safety changes have been put in place in order to prevent this from occurring again.
The new safety upgrades include requirements for riders and a better communication process so that those attending the carnival can communicate issues with operators.
Each person entering the festival will receive a pamphlet that details the age, height, weight and agility requirements for each ride. Each ride will also have an operators that can speak Spanish and English so that there is no barrier in communication efforts. Last year, a 47-year-old man fell 30 feet from the Hi Miler ride.
The man died of injuries sustained and family members filed a wrongful death lawsuit claiming it is because he was not restrained properly. Rodeo officials continue to insist that the ride did not have any failure or malfunctions. A settlement meeting is set for next month.
