Jennifer Rosenberg, mother of Alex Ford, is seeking accountability for her daughter’s death by suing the Cowboys Dancehall for negligence after serving John Layton, the drunk driver, way too much alcohol.

On June 21, Layton, who was driving under the influence with a blood alcohol level that was almost four times over the legal limit, caused a head-on collision with Ford’s vehicle, killing both drivers. Layton allegedly left the Cowboys Dancehall in Arlington extremely intoxicated before dring his car on the wrong side of Highway 287 in Grand Prairie, crashing head on into Ford’s car.

The suit also claims that the club tried to manipulate witness testimonies immediately after the accident occurred.

A lone male was driving a Dodge truck eastbound on Highway 105 at around 5:30 a.m. when it swerved towards the opposite lane, hitting a Volkswagen Jetta with four people inside it. All four people inside the Jetta, a female driver, a male, and two children, were instantly killed while the truck driver was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital with life threatening injuries, according to Texas DPS Trooper Erik Burse.

The circumstances which led to the accident have not yet been fully determined, nor have any charges been filed as an investigation is still being conducted. Identities of the victims are set to be released after families have been notified.

Emergency responders could see billowing black smoke rising from the chemical plant, and hurried to extinguish the flames in about 45 minutes, according to reports.

All 100 employees were evacuated by emergency responders, but not all employees escaped the fire incident without injury. One worker was reported to have sustained injuries, and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Information about that worker’s condition is unknown at this time.

Reports say that the burning material was magnesium oxide. AkzoNobel confirmed that there was no shelter-in-place warning issued to workers. According to reports, however, magnesium oxide is not toxic and employees returned to work later in the day.

Reports cannot yet confirm the cause of the fire, plant officials saying that “it’s too early” for this determination. The case is still under investigation by local officials.

According to an accident report, the 16-year police veteran was northbound on the highway just after 8 p.m. when a Pontiac Grand Prix traveling in the same direction made an quick lane change into the officer’s lane and struck the motorcycle.

The collision caused the man to be thrown from the motorcycle and onto the roadway. The 44-year-old officer was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital in order to be treated, but he was later pronounced dead.

Police officials have stated that the investigation into the accident is still underway and they do no believe that the driver of the Grand Prix was impaired at the time of the collision. The officer worked in the traffic enforcement division of the Houston Police Department since December 1995.

The plaintiffs in the case, a married couple, filed a motion for continuance, which would extend the case for another 120 days. They are suing the owner of Concourse Body Shop after the shop’s guard dog attacked one of them.
