Dangerous Galveston County Roads Lead to Serious Injury

The Galveston County Daily News published a list of the most dangerous roads in the Galveston County area. These roads are considered dangerous and have caused serious injury and even death as a result of negligent drivers. Although many people believe that Interstate roads are much more dangerous to drivers, there are negligent drivers everywhere, causing any road to potentially be very dangerous to drivers. The report listed that a majority of the accidents occur in the summer months when the roads are their busiest.

State highway 146 is the most dangerous road in Galveston County, according to the report. The Department of Public Safety has recorded 23 deaths on the road between 2000 and 2005. Authorities say that the number of serious injuries and deaths on highway 146 continue to rise each year and they expect to see an even greater number of deaths when the 2006 report is released later in the year.

Interstate 45 was second on the list with 22 fatal car accidents between the 2000 and 2005 time period. State highway 87 was third on the list with 20 deaths during the five years. According to the report, a total of 218 people have died in over 190 crashes during the five year time period. Many people are shocked that there are so many deaths on highway 87, but the stretch of road becomes incredibly busy during the summer months as tourist and other vacationers travel to Galveston Island.
